Words & Review: Jenna Stoch
Before I begin, I want to take a moment to express how genuinely grateful I am to have been able to listen to MIKA’s new album before its release. MIKA holds such a special place in my heart - his music soundtracked some of my favourite childhood memories, driving around with my mum screaming the lyrics to Blue Eyes (which was especially fitting, considering my mum has the most beautiful blue eyes!). Being able to review this album now feels like a true full-circle moment, and I’m incredibly thankful for it.
Alright, let’s get into the review.
Hyperlove
A beautiful piano intro leads into vibey, ’80s-inspired synths, and then that voice we all know and love - beautiful. It’s instantly catchy, and I can already tell it’ll be stuck in my head for days. There’s something ironic about the robotic-sounding voice asking questions like “what is love?” and talking about love leaving things burning. It almost makes you think - this love is so “hyper” that even a robot can feel it or question it. It feels very much like an introduction to the album.
Modern Times
This track leans more into disco vibes. OOHH! I love when he comes in with that effect on his voice! This is a proper dance song. It almost feels like if 2016 were a song. Losing faith in modern times is definitely a universal feeling… because same.
Spinning Out
An ’80s/’90s dance-song vibe that’s super catchy. It absolutely has the potential to go viral on TikTok. One of those songs that gets stuck in your head without even trying.
Excuses for Love
This one makes me want to drive around with the windows down and play it on repeat. I love the intro. And wow - his voice is just beautiful.
Everything’s Beautiful (Interlude)
Hmm, it’s interesting. Not so much a song as it is a lead-in to the next track.
All the Same
This song somehow feels familiar - not because it sounds like something else, but because it’s comforting. Definitely my favourite on the album so far. I’m genuinely dancing in my seat right now.
Dreams
This track brings a different vibe compared to the others, but it works really well. It still fits seamlessly into the album while breaking up the freshness of the previous songs. I love the wavy background effects, and the constant synth ties everything together beautifully. It almost sounds futuristic.
Science Fiction Lover
OOHH, this is lovely. I really love the acoustic sound paired with the ’80s synths that feel like a running theme throughout the album. I can definitely see myself jamming to this song for years to come.
Take Your Problems With You
Ah… that voice. I can’t handle it. I love it so much. The guitar melody is beautiful, and this feels like a classic MIKA song in the best way. This is probably my favourite track on the album. I already can’t wait to learn every lyric off by heart. Also… definite Fleetwood Mac vibes. Absolute banger.
Please Take Your Problems (Interlude)
Another wordy, unique break in the album, paired with a vibey beat.
Nicotine
An instant smile appears the moment this song starts. It has a similar effect to real nicotine - if nicotine makes you feel happier and lighter 😂. It’s that classic MIKA sound that fans know and love.
Eleven
An interesting intro that immediately makes you want to hear more. I love the rhythm of this song - very catchy, very vibey.
Bells
This one also feels familiar in the best possible way. It just makes you smile. Definitely going straight onto my 2026 playlist.
Immortal Dream (Interlude)
Another interlude similar to the previous ones - very unique.
Immortal Love
Yet another dance-song vibe. This track just works. It’s almost satisfying to listen to, and it serves as a great ending to a wonderful album.
Overall, the album feels fresh, catchy, and like a complete vibe from start to finish. The standout track for me is definitely Take Your Problems With You - I love it. I’m extremely honoured to have been sent this album to review.
Ca-ching! ✨
